Market Basket Weaving Class with Joanne

Joanne and Monty hosted our Cheap Sheep Saturday at their lovely home overlooking the Mokelumne River.  Here is their spectacular view:

Joanne's mission for the day was to teach us how to weave a market basket.  In past years under Joanne's tutelage, we have made a wool drying basket, a berry basket, and an egg basket.  Here we are with works-in-progress:

February Del Oro Activities

Our next guild meeting will be Wednesday, February 19 at 7 p.m.  We meet at the Sutter Creek United Methodist Church on Main and Church Streets in Sutter Creek, California.  Please enter through the side door on Church Street.

Our program for February will be hosted by Janice and Laura, who will be demonstrating and teaching novelty yarn and Navajo spinning.  Bring your wheel and fibers, if you wish to spin along.

Below is my finished band from the January bow loom weaving program presented by Pat.  The loom itself is an ancient design. Ours were fabricated with a 48" dowel approx 3/8" diameter (nice and flexy).  At each end an opened paperclip (opened to look like a skinny "S") was duct-taped.  5 strands of 8/2 or 10/2 perle cotton formed the warp.  Warp threads were spaced with a kitchen sponge.  The weft was shot through using a tapestry needle for the shuttle.  Number 6 beads form the warp edge.  Band length is driven by the size of the dowel.

Uses:  hat bands, belts, garment edging, bag straps.
